For those of you who love Egyptian history and like me, love learning more about it, here are two suggestions that I've come across recently.
It's not always the case that the documentary channels run fresh new programmes about a subject but the
Nat Geo TV channel is currently running a special series on the Secrets of Egypt. The shows are at 9pm (UK) on Tuesday evenings with the first one last night being a special about the 'Valley of the Kings'. Next week's episode is all about Ramses the Great.
Part of last nights show explained in greater depth the recent excavations in and around the Valley of the Kings and we were shown that with today's technology we are finding out even more about this historical place through things like digital 3D mapping of the site. For example, we now know that Queen Hatchepsut's tomb was not only the first, but also the deepest of all tombs in the valley.
Not only have archaeologists been working harder than ever, using new scientific tools and recording data - those of us with an interest in this can now find out even more through interesting websites such as the
Theban Mapping Project - the Atlas feature on the site has good introductory video & audio guides to each of the tombs to give you either a taste of what you will see, or a reminder of where you've been.
